bride, 新娘。groom , 改編自古英語詞guma, 男人,詞源同human. 因guma對大多數(shù)人來說都是陌生詞,逐漸拼寫變?yōu)間room, 馬夫。
英文詞源
- bridegroom
- bridegroom: see groom
- bridegroom (n.)
- Old English brydguma "suitor," from bryd "bride" (see bride) + guma "man" (source also of Old Norse gumi, Old High German gomo, cognate with Latin homo "man;" see homunculus). Ending altered 16c. by folk etymology after groom (n.) "groom, boy, lad" (q.v.).
Common Germanic compound (compare Old Saxon brudigumo, Old Norse bruegumi, Old High German brutigomo, German Br?utigam), except in Gothic, which used brutsfats, literally "bride's lord."
